Hearing that your child has been hurt and humiliated is every parent’s worst nightmare. Yvette Winson had to deal with this reality on more than one occasion. In 2010 her 16-year-old daughter was attacked by five boys in her school.

Two thoughtful parents once sat their preschooler down to tell him about their upcoming divorce. Carefully and gently, they told him that Mommy and Daddy were going to stop living together and would now live in different houses, but he would still see both of them regularly.

Nothing about divorce, especially with kids, is easy. It helped when I could find the inner resources to roll up my mental sleeves and look just three feet ahead of me, rather than allowing my mind to roam around the whole big picture and all that needed to be done.

If you're getting divorced, you're probably worried about your child or children. So you'll be heartened to know that the research shows that kids can cope with a divorce and come out ok.
